When Weydon School’s budget was squeezed headteacher John Winter appealed for parents to help the school in any way they could – and local painters & decorators Marshels of Farnham Ltd were only too pleased to help.

Managing director Jamie Elstow sent foreman Peter Sutton along with two painters to revamp the reception area and school halls free of charge.

Lending a helping hand during the Easter holidays were Mr Elstow’s son Steve, 15, and his friend Charlie Collins, 14, who are both in Year 10 at the Weydon Lane school in Farnham.

Mr Elstow said:

“My interest was sparked after a communication from the headteacher saying the budget had been cut so he was approaching every parent to see if they could offer something for the school. It’s a good school and recently decided to take on academy status, and Mr Winter is a very proactive headteacher so I was keen to do what I could.”

“The two lads are coming to me in May for work experience and they said they’d be happy to help with this too. They’ve given up their school holidays for it so I’m quite pleased they’ve been willing to put some work in for the school.” he added.

Work to refurbish the area started on Monday (April 11) and was due to finish on Friday (April 15). Formerly based in Wrecclesham, Marshels of Farnham Ltd, now based in Reading Road, Farnborough, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in June.
